Park Shin-Hye + George Hu= Hayate the Combat Butler

Adding up to the increasing number of live-action adaptations is Kenjie Harata’s popular romantic-comedy manga, Hayate the Combat Butler. Okay, so I’m not a fan of the manga or the anime. And honestly, the only thing that got me interested in this drama is  Park Shin Hye (You’re Beautiful).

For sure, Hayate will prove to be a lot more challenging than all her dramas combined. You see, this is a Taiwanese drama and she needs to hurdle against the language barrier. And trust me, it’s a very, very high hurdle.  It’s difficult but not entirely impossible. I’ve seen Korea-Taiwan joint projects with the same set-up before (Silence and My Lucky Star), and they were good. Not my favorites, but still, well, good.

Even at this very early stage, I’m already intrigued on how Shin Hye will pull this through. I really hope she’ll get a solid on-screen chemistry with George Hu. Please..please make it work.

Here’s the plot from good old wikipedia. 🙂

Hayate Ayasaki is an unlucky teenager who worked since childhood to make ends meet due to his parents’ irresponsible behavior. One day he finds out that his parents were planning to sell his organs to the Yakuza to make money, leaving behind a massive gambling debt on his shoulders. While running away from the debt collectors, he ends up meeting Nagi Sanzen’in, a young girl who is the sole heir of the wealthy Sanzen’in estate, and due to a misunderstanding, Nagi ends up falling in love with Hayate. After he rescues Nagi from some kidnappers, she hires Hayate as her new butler.

Aside from performing his ordinary duties as a butler, Hayate must fight to protect Nagi from harm, a difficult task since her life is always in danger because she is the target of other individuals coveting her family’s fortune, and sometimes deal with some extravagant requests from her, oblivious to Nagi’s true feelings for him.
